Year Founded: 1932
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is a country in West Asia which occupies 80% of the landmass of the Arabian Peninsula. The kingdom was founded in 1932 and is one of the few states where the king has absolute control among the remaining monarchies of our times. The discovery of oil reserves in 1938 sent the state to the ranks of powerful economies. It is the world’s no.1 oil producing and exporting nation and also the one and only Arab country in the G20. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman proposed Saudi Vision 2030 to reduce economic over-dependence on oil, with the hope of transforming the country into an advanced state powered by financial and technological strength. However, the crown prince’s image has been tarnished because of his rumor connection to the murder of Jamal Khashoggi. Saudi Arabia holds a long-standing grudge against Shia Iran and the two states wage proxy wars in countries like Yemen, Syria and Sudan.
